How is your year going?
Did you start the year with enthusiasm?
But by mid-year (that’s now) you struggle to remember what your resolutions were?
If that sounds like you, you are not alone.
I want to share the only advice you need to nail your goals in 2025.
“To move forward, first look back”
I studied history at the University of Sydney (which I loved!)
It might seem a strange choice, given now I spend so much time reading scientific journals, looking for the best emotional wellbeing strategies for you.
But studying history taught me, to move forward, you must first look back.
Nothing happens in a vacuum.
“Context matters”
Humans often repeat patterns of the past.
And you probably do too.
Unless you are aware of your patterns and can intervene to break them.
So I want you to look back to the first half of 2025.
Then put the
‘rule of 3’
into place.
Write down the 3 best moments of the year so far.
1. Who were you with?
2. What emotions did you feel?
3. Why was it so memorable?
Now write down the worst 3 moments of the year so far.
What actions can you take to prevent these moments happening again?
What helped you get through it?
“Here’s why this practice works.”
You are taking the time to identify what really matters.
You are focusing on the positive emotions you want to feel.
And you are taking steps to ensure the worst moments don’t happen again.
For me, my top moments so far are:
1. Having real conversations with my girlfriends over coffees
2. Playing a positive role with my husband in our adult children’s lives
3. Keeping my promises to myself to invest every day in my wellbeing
How about you?
I would love to hear your best moments so far and how you can make sure the rest of the year is a beautiful one.
Remember, every single positive action you take today is a gift to your future self.
